hey all yous........

as you can see - things were petty dark and depressed around here for the last month or so. i had to finally admit to myself that i made the same mistake twice. once, okay - cause you always learn something. but two times - SUCKS! two times I formed a partnership with warner brothers and two times became overwhelmed by the lethargy there. the ins and outs of this boring story are not as simple as i'm making it seem. there were different people involved over there and i was a different person, the music i was making was different etc. in fact, not much was the same about the two situations except that both serve to dispel the myth of corporate music making machines.

but, that is now the past. today is a magic day.

the big news is, i'm out of there...! we reached a mutually happy deal and i signed the papers last week. i feel like a huge cloud has lifted. many good things have happened almost since the moment the deal was done. first off, i now own "i confess" and "tenderhooks". when i signed back to warners, i had put into the deal that if during the term for "i confess" they didn't put out "tenderhooks" that i would own it outright as well. so i am the proud owner of masters for both albums.

the day after i signed the papers, i went in to sing backgrounds on a national tv and radio spot, and ended up with the lead, background and two voiceovers on it. with so much time between actual paying singing jobs, it's cool cause i needed the cash. isn't that sexy?

the next day my friend sunny called and asked me to come sing on the song he had just written for his grandpa quincy jones. it's a gorgeous song called; "we are the future now." they are going to do a huge concert in rome. it will be this generation's, "we are the world". it was lovely over at sunny's. his co-writer and bass player homie named guiseppe made us the most delicious meal i've ever had...thin sliced pink steak and roasted potatoes and a tomato and some hot little greens. the 2nd day we worked, their other co-writer, rod temperton came over and produced an amazing 12 year old singer named kareena and i singing it. rod is a ledgendary soul songwriter. give him a google and you will be rocked.

then when i left there, i had a message on my machine from my friend mike elizondo. he was asking if i might want to come sing the nancy sinatra song, "bang bang" for him and dr. dre. they were doing a track for eve and could i call back soon. the next day i went over there and made music with mike and dre and that felt real real good.

so, i'm sorry for so long in between updates. i had to get up out of my hole. i hate to fuck up. i want this album out. and i've now already written a bunch more stuff so i was in a bit of a quandary. like, what the fuck do i do now? yes, a lot of off color words and ugly tears were flying around.

your posts and emails have made me feel better. thank you for your thoughts and love and ideas. i know i should put my music out myself as a lot of you have said. i'm just not quite that organized yet. YET. bombshell records is coming soon. i've had the name for awhile but not the gumption.

can't wait to sing for you. maybe you'll get to one of these shows coming up? check the tour section. we're touring sunset boulevard this month..

sexy, right?

"Everybody gonna be, gonna be alright"

Hey, congratulations on all of this good, exciting, encouraging (and yes, sexy) news! It's always darkest before the dawn, so having a fried named Sunny help out couldn't be more appropriate. I'll be among the first in line -- figuratively if not literally -- when you get Bombshell up and running.

Uh, that would be friend named Sunny, not "fried." I'm too happy for you to type properly.

Bravo!

If anyone can go truly indie and beat the system with fabulous success, you've gotta be the flippin' poster child.

Rock the house, girlfriend. We'll all be lined up to buy the CD(s) when they ship!

Wow and you actually read this!!!!

So okay have been a huge fan of yours since I read the essay you put in Women Singer/Songwriters in their own words....... It was like impossible to find your first album in the store but I finally did and have listend to it non stop for the past god almost 3 years..... I'm glad that everything is going okay for you..... I was a little worried for a minute there because I havent checked your site in like 2 years and it was soooo different I thought maybe you sold out for like a split second till I read this journal.... And all I can say is I'm very happy you didnt pull a Liz Phair.... You have way more talent than that girl! thanks for keeping it real!

don't accept, at this stage, anything that isn't all you want from life

This is fabulous news. The emergence of your site after so many years of no news was so thrilling but the delay of the album was very disappointing. I really hope you get organized soon and put those CDs online :-) I'm one of those people that need to feel the actual Cd, read the lyric sheet, etc so I ordered your single Just So You Know/Mannequins on www.amazon.fr. And I'm thinking: why not put the CDs (like "Tenderhooks" )you're selling at your gigs now on Ebay...that way fans like me (living a million miles away in Belgium) also have a chance to buy the new stuff? I hope all these gigs & stuff will be fun and I'm sure they will help you reach more people. Look forward to more news soon! BTW: "different languages" I so one of my fave songs ever!!

I knew it was you!!!

Holly-
The first time I heard your sexy voice on that commercial I knew that only H.P. could sound that finger lickin' good!!! I actually look forward to that spot, like a little tease until your album comes out!!! I am so glad that it will and in YOUR way!!! It sounds like all this will actually to be your benefit, and your fans as well. We don't need their lethargy we want your momentum! I can't wait! Loved you in Park City, can't get your performance of Jumping Jack outta my head. Love it!
Much love and anticipation!!!!

Re: I knew it was you!!!

I feel like I heard the commercial with her in it. But the flash was gone, and I can't remember which one it was. Help me out with what it was. Thanks

Wow, it's really great to hear that the clouds have gone now and that you own your own albums. Although I'd love to hear both of them asap, I fully understand and agree with you, that you need to take your time forming bombshell records (a cool name, that one), and placing your albums on the market, all in a way that's worthwhile for you. For an artist these days, it's important to own your own back catalogue, like you do now. Michelle Shocked had a licensing deal with her label, when her recordings initially came out. A decade or so later, when the licensing deal ran out, the rights went back to her, and now, all her albums are available on her own label. Maybe a licensing deal would do it for you, I don't know, it's just an idea. Another option is of course the official website, or a combination of both, which is the way John Wesley Harding does it.

Good luck to you, and it's great to hear you sing again :-)
